While both towns are inexpensive when compared to other European capitals like Paris, London, or Berlin, Prague is definitely more expensive than Budapest. In fact, Pragueโs prices have been steadily increasing in the last years due to tourism and the economic growth of Czechia.
Prague also has alot of what your looking for but it takes a little longer to get around by foot I would also say slightly more expensive. There's alot of super cool gothic architecture if you like that stuff also absinthe bars not too sure on hostel life there though :) have a good trip.In the winter, Budapest often gets more sunshine than Zagreb.
